Art and Design stimulates creativity and imagination. Pupils use colour, form, texture, pattern and different materials, processes, skills and techniques to communicate what they see, feel and think. Often the work we do is as a result of other artists and designers throughout time and in different cultures. They learn about the role of art, craft and design in their environment. Our music curriculum offers children opportunities to develop their appreciation and understanding of a wide range of different kinds of music—developing and extending their own interests and increasing their ability to make judgements. They will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to make music. Music also helps to develop good attitudes to learning in general; it can help children to develop listening skills, concentration, creativity, perseverance, self-confidence and much more!
From year 2 upwards, all children have the opportunity to play an instrument, starting with recorder. In year 4 they can choose to play flute, clarinet, keyboard, violin or guitar. All Key Stage 2 children are part of our orchestra, so that they can learn to play together, compose short pieces and perform. Singing regularly is also an important part of our music curriculum. This involves the whole school on a weekly basis.
